Probate records [microform], 1892-1904.

Probate records can be one or more of the following: wills, order books, appraisements, inventories and settlements. They are filed in the county court generally at the time the death occurred. There may be indexes to the probate records available. Administer and executor bonds show the name of the executor or administrator appointed by the deceased, and usually show the relationship to the deceased. If not appointed by a will, the court appoints an administrator. A guardian is appointed for any minor children. Sales and settlements of the estate follow an appraisal and inventory. The sale will record each item sold, its price and the name of the buyer, usually a relative or neighbor. After completion of the sale, the estate is settled. All heirs and their spouses are listed in the settlement. If land is partitioned to settle the estate, those records would be recorded in the deeds.
